She will be dearly missed by her husband Erwin L. Boring; son David (Linda) Boring; daughter, Michelle (Warren) McCandless; son, Mark (Melissa) Boring; son, Brian (Heather) Borin; brother Norman (Sharon) Lee along with much beloved grandchildren Michael (Jeanette) Boring; Nicholas (Maria) Boring, Alyssa (Scott) Sheller, Julia Boring, Caden Borin, Zachary Boring, Kaitlin Boring, Kenna Borin as well as nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many life-long friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathleen Lorna Boring, loving mother Ona (Vaughn) Lee; sister Janice (Lee) Davis and brother Alfred Lee.
Lorna was born in Portland, graduated from Oregon City High School and enrolled in the Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, OR, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957.Her love of the nursing profession continued throughout her life and she went back to college as an older adult, graduating from the Oregon Health Sciences University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in June 1982.Over the years before her retirement, she worked in a variety of nursing settings, including within hospitals, schools, the Clackamas County jail and the historic Oregon City paper mill.Even after her formal retirement, Lorna continued her loving, caregiving ways through many volunteer organizations including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), hospice, the American Red Cross, the Board of Deacons at the Cannon Beach Community Church and countless opportunities taking care of family and friends that needed her skilled and compassionate care.
She met Erwin, her husband of over 60 years, through the Youth for Christ Choir and he asked her to marry him at Multnomah Falls on May 23, 1957.Although she obviously said “yes!” to the proposal, Lorna did make Erwin ask twice as she wanted to be sure she was hearing him correctly over the sound of the falls. They were married on August 29, 1958, at the Northeast Assembly of God Church in Portland, after providing enough time to save up her money for the wedding she always wanted.
Lorna raised five children and thoroughly enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. The only time her nursing skills left her mind was when one of her children got hurt – everyone knew that she was a mother first and that another nurse would need to be found in those cases.
After both she and Erwin retired, they moved down to Cannon Beach, Oregon, full time for over 18 years, living in a home that had been built by one of their sons.In the past few years, she had been living at CherryWood Retirement Village and then Royal Anne Assisted Living.
A memorial service has been held at the Gabriel Chapel at CherryWood Retirement Village.
